eCost.com wins the InboxVision Email Gallery Design of the Week Award

This eCost.com email is an awesome example of creating some excitement to showcase hot, new products. The bright and energetic colour palette combined with the monolithic perspective of this piece of “tech” suggests a fun yet superior product. The content of the email uses a clean and easy-to-read design. The blank white background emphasises the rich quality of the images and decorative elements. Separating the different features by alternating the text and image alignments is a great idea; this forces the viewers eye to move from side to side to absorb the small paragraphs and headings rather than it appearing as a large boring block of features.

Christmas applies to pets as well!

Today’s email from IAMS ticks lots of best practice email design boxes. Their subject line is clever in that it links pet food with a seasonal, charitable message: “Help Iams donate pet food this holiday season”.

Email Design of the Day – Wednesday

Posted in B2B, Newsletters, Software, Technology

December 14th, 2011

Ignore the B2B blocked images issue at your peril!

I’ve chosen today’s email from EMC Corporation because they’ve designed an email template that largely overcomes the blocked images problem without losing too much of the content. Their subject line is good in that it points out that the newsletter is customised for the reader: “View Your Custom Newsletter from EMC”.

Boring subject lines will consign your emails to the trash bin

I’ve chosen today’s email from Olive Juice simply because their subject line is so compelling: “NEW Markdowns + Up To 50% OFF!” If your subject lines aren’t compelling, then you’re simply pouring your marketing budget down the drain. I selected the Olive Juice email from InboxVision’s “be inspired” Email Gallery, a small extract from their Email Intelligence database of a million promotional email designs & newsletter templates. Start your Boxing Day email campaigns now – how about promoting Boxing Week?

I’ve chosen this email from First Air because they’ve cleverly extended the usual “Boxing Day” promotions to “Boxing Week”. Here’s their subject line: “Boxing Week Sale – Special one way fares available for the Kivalliq”.

Email Design of the Day – Wednesday

Posted in B2C, Christmas, Email Design of the Day Award, Free Gifts, Prize Draws, Tourism & Leisure

December 7th, 2011

How about this for a Christmas prize draw  – offer it each and every day for 24 days!

I chose this Christmas email from HomeAway Holiday Rentals because of its innovative Christmas campaign, offering a prize draw every day for 24 days. It’s very “sticky” and makes a great list-building tool and sales generator. Here’s the subject line: “Play to win cameras, vouchers, hampers and more every day“. Brilliant!

Be different – use Advent email campaigns

Posted in B2C, Christmas, Tourism & Leisure

December 6th, 2011

Why not “count down” the days left to Christmas in your emails

I chose this Christmas email from Donington Manor Hotel because it’s a great example of how to “count down” to Christmas, or in their case, they actually use an Advent-type “count up” idea, as every new day gets closer and closer to December 25th. Here’s their December 3rd subject line: “The Finesse Collection Advent Calendar: Day 3“.
