Halloween Emails to Give a Hoot About

October 11th, 2012

Are your Halloween promotions ready or down right ghoulish?

Today we’ve taken a few emails from our system as a source of inspiration. We’re not massive fan’s of Halloween emails, as many companies can chuck out a variety of Halloween holwers! Many can be without any relevance to their company at all. This is a perfect time for B2C companies to reach out, but make sure you’ve thought  your offers through so you don’t scare off potential leads and customers!

Think about it, it’s likely that many other companies will seize this occasion as an opportunity to reach subscribers and your email will could end up being part of this nuisance if it’s not intelligent, useful or entertaining. We must admit, you may have to take a pinch of salt with some of these emails that we’ve selected, we love elements of them, but they’re still not quite good enough. (The lack of html optimisation was a pretty scary site when searching through our system!)

Here are a few pointers to turn your email into a treat:

- Avoid cringe copy: Don’t just clump Halloween themed words for the sake of it. The subject line on 1000Bulbs doesn’t exactly pull us in at all. “Scary Halloween Deals” – sounds like something we should avoid! Things like “check out the spooky deals” or “deals that are spookily good” has absolutely no imagination at all and doesn’t really make sense.

- Think about your segments: Taking advantage of this event as a time to email can easily turn customers off without a thoughtful approach it can become a nuisance. Think about your audience what data or previous purchases from profiles

- Spark imagination: Make your products much more tempting by using quality photographs and presenting them in a decorative setting to give recipients ideas for a Halloween party context.

- Think of extra calls to actions to direct to your site: If it’s fairly relevant to your business and you can link it to your products in some way, try putting together quick cooking and crafts ideas on your blog as a Halloween treat. You recipients might not have gone for your main call to action on your email but may wander to other areas of your site with these extra treats.
