PizzaExpress wins the InboxVision Email Gallery Design of the Week Award
This email uses an innovative way of personalising it’s emails. The subject line shows that this email has designed a £10 menu just for “Norman”. The use personalisation in an email can be a very successful technique in reducing unsubscribes by addressing your audience personally. It’s relatively easy and inexpensive to execute. It’s also a great opportunity to segment your emails by highlighting subscriber preferences. Emails personalised for a certain subscriber tastes gives that subscriber what they want and they can totally relate to the emails and be more engaged by them.
Here are our top 3 reasons PizzaExpress’ email has made this week’s winner:

- Very clear offer: This email repeats the offer of a menu for £10. The subject line first of all tells we can get a £10 menu, this is then backed up with the main headline and further on in the menu itself. All of this makes the recipient understand what the offer includes.
- Personalisation: This email has a strong use of personalisation and uses it to it advantage. First of all the subject is addressed to Norman. The imagery also uses personalisation with the appearance of a chef holding a chalk board, and creates a personal feeling that the offer is especially for you. The chalk board has been used innovatively to hold important information such as the voucher code. The menu has also personalised in the same style and to Norman’s particular tastes, which shows PizzaExpress feels passionately about delivering to different customer tastes.
- Simple, well laid out design: The design is very simple with an image down one side and a menu on the other. This is good as nothing gets lost with too much imagery. The email is mainly in black and white but does use a small injection of bright colour as an accent colour to the main elements e.g. the Personalised name and the menu. The minimal use of the yellow is a nice touch as it breaks up the black and white, but isn’t too heavy that it will overpower the overall design.
In summary this email uses a balance of clear and simple design with a nice use between personalisation for a consumer audience.
